About Us

We must always remain guided by the knowledge, experience and needs of those most affected by crime.
The Insight Development Group (IDG) is a community based transformative education, and restorative justice dialogue program serving the adults in custody housed at the Oregon State Correctional Institution. Originally founded by four inmates under the guidance of the institution's chaplain in 2009, IDG was created by lifers as an opportunity to explore more deeply the causes, and impacts of their harms upon victims and the greater community. Additionally, the program was created to help adults in custody generate higher levels of personal accountability, and offer opportunities for restoration.

IDG at this time is entirely volunteer based! Our volunteers
are comprised of community members from different social, academic, and professional backgrounds and all bring with them their lived experiences and insight. Many of our volunteers do have backgrounds in conflict resolution, criminal justice, social work, psychology and more.  If you are interested in becoming an IDG volunteer facilitator or would like a professional internship opportunity please see out volunteer sign up page.

*NOTE*
In March of 2020 The Insight Development Group had to abruptly stop programming due to the onset of the global pandemic. All volunteer programming was shutdown inside Oregon prison institutions for about two years.

We are diligently working to re-establish our program and hope to launch classes in the start of 2023. Please stay tuned for future updates.

Thank you!
